What specifically isn't working aka what would you want working?
If I remember right the WAN LED can be configured to shadow the wwan traffic and make it blink.
Are you using the WiFix firmware or straight r00ter or the stock openWRT firmware that comes with it from Chinese vendors?
The Wifix, and I think straight r00ter, has a menu under System that's called "LED Configuration"
I believe there is a post on here that talks about it.
Save your routers config, though, before playing with it!! I jacked up mine somehow playing with it. I wanted to turn all the lights off and somehow got my modem disconnected. A fresh firmware install fixed it, but I didn't save my configs so I had to reset all the settings again like it was a fresh new install.

Try this...
Go to System-->LED Config-->Add new-->
Code: Select all
name: wwan
LED name zbt-we826:green:wan
trigger netdev
device wwan0
trigger mode: check link, transmit and receive.
