mofi4500 w7455 updated to goldenorb from stock FW and speeds dropped

I have had a Mofi4500 for some time. Was never truely happy with the stock FW. Found this site and learned of Goldenorb. I installed the WE826-GO2020-03-01 firmware and everything went well. But my speeds dropped from 40 down to around 12 down. Nothing else has changed with my setup. Just the firmware. I am assuming that I am missing something in the setup. Any help would be appreciated to help get my speeds back up to what they were so I don't have to go back to stock!

Looks like you are on Band 5 with 10MHz of bandwidth.

I also see no secondary carrier.

I would first make sure the bands are set to all. Go the Modem > Misc > AT Command Terminal and run the following command:

Code: Select all

AT!BAND=00
Then, do a power off/power on reboot, and run your GSTATUS one more time.

Are you testing speeds via the LAN cable, or wifi? Ive heard reports that openwrt firmware can make wifi performance less than some other firmware distros. I've never tested this.

The PCC is the Primary carrier (Band 13), and the SCC is the secondary carrier (Band 2) used for carrier aggregation.

Your RSRQ signals in very poor.

OK time for the ELI5 moment. I see the Band 13 but where did you pull the Band 2 from?

I have 2 yagis in my attic aligned towards by best tower. One perpendicular and the second parallel to the ground. both using the same 10 foot cables. Ill have to crawl up there and check my alignment

Right side of your previous output says
LTE Scell band: B2
Start a speedtest, then run an AT!GSTATUS? command while it is running, during the download portion of the test. Post that output.

Looks like, when your attaching to B4 or B5, your output shows you havent done any CA, as its not assigned a secondary cell from neighboring cells on the tower.

I believe, though, the mc7455 should be able to CA over 4 & 5.

Might want to try to create a band lock group that includes all ATT bands except 4, and maybe exclude 5 as well. Test it one exclusion at a time I guess.

I did just that last night. Did a band lock on one band at a time and did some speed tests. . But I think I need to run it again with my new settings.

I assume that there is no way to find out what CA the tower will support without trial and error?

OK. tried a few different band combos. Wife threatened me with death if I didn't stop tinkering while she was trying to work.....
reset back to band 00 and not I got CA on Band 4 and 13...
tweaked my Antennas a bit and I think I am ust going to walk away.

Thank you for all the assistance. I really appreciate the help.

4 and 13 seem to be your best. IF you continue having issues, and when the wife isn't online (I feel ya), you may want to try locking to just those 2. I don't like band locking for no reason, but it seems to come in handy in certain situations.

So here we are again. Everything was running great until is wasn't. Verizon wireless is not open until 8am so I am checking to find out if I am missing something. It looks like my modem is trying to connect but can't for some reason. Starting to think im getting blacklisted because of the imei. When I move sim card back to their crappy mifi everything works but not in my router.

I'm curious.... which modem firmware image are you using?

Run command:

Code: Select all

Sorry I vanished. I reloaded the stock MOFI FW to get back up and running. I just put GOldenorb back on and am fighting to get connected again

So, your unit fires up, connects to the network, passes internet connectivity, then after a few minutes drops connection? But not if your using the mofi firmware?

Correct. After 4 hours working with Verizon it turns out the my Sim card went and got itself fubar in the verizon system. Had to get a new sim card and everything is working great on the GoldenOrb firmware

Awesome! I was starting to wonder if your SIM got blacklisted. Verizon is reportedly getting very tight with SIM movements between devices.

Ideally you would want the two antennas at a 45 degree angles of each other. Currently you have them at 90 degree angle which is not ideal and may prevent the CA to kick in. Also, use the shortest possible cables to avoid signal loss.
