Router has been unplugged and the SIM is in a phone and the phone is able to play a Youtube video. The Wifi is off on the phone and the phones data over cellular is on btw.

Leave the SIM Card out of the router.

There has been a lot of configurations going on with the setup so lets first remove all configurations from the modem.

Log into the router and comment out the TTL scripts by placing a # in front of them. This was discussed PREVIOUSLY in this post. Then restart firmware.

Next, go to the AT Command terminal and run the following command:

Code: Select all

AT+QPRTPARA=3
That will remove any configuration in the modem.

After the modem responds to having received the command, wait about 30 seconds and remove the power from the router.

Wait 10 more seconds, and plug the router back in.

Go back to the AT Command terminal and place the modem in LTE only mode:

Code: Select all

AT+QCFG="nwscanmode",3,1
Next, shut down router, and install SIM Card and power back up the router.

Log into the router, and go to the AT Command terminal and run this command to make sure it is reading the SIM card properly.

Code: Select all

AT+CPIN?
It should reply ready. If not, need to make sure the SIM Card is installed in the SIM Card adapter correctly.

You can also run this command to check it is reading the numbers assigned to the SIM card correctly.

Code: Select all

AT+QSIMSTAT?
If it returns the SIM Card information, go to the MODEM > NETWORK and see if the EM20-G and IMEI is listed correctly.

I commented out the TTL scripts with the # as described. I then ran the AT+QPRTPARA=3 from the AT Command and received an Ok. I waited the 30 seconds and unplugged the router and then plugged it back in after the 10 seconds. I went back to the AT Command and ran AT+QCFG="nwscanmode",3,1 and again received back an Ok. I then shut down the router and remmoved the SIM from the phone and inserted it back into the router. I powered back up the router and went back to the AT Command and ran AT+CPIN? and again received an Ok. I then ran AT+QSIMSTAT? from the AT Command but didn't receive SIM info back. What I received was the following: +QSIMSTAT: 0,1

Read the part about SIM cards and adapters HERE and make sure yours is fitting the adapter correctly.

Also, always power down the router before installing or removing the SIM Card.

The SIM card sides do not have any of the tabs on it, are flat and fit the holder without being loose or tight and does appear to be making good contact. I have the SIM in the Routers SIM card slot currently and not in the PCI-E to M.2 adapter SIM slot. I can try moving it there if that is where it's supposed to be. Also in the trouble shooting guide under the APN field for T-Mobile it lists three lines under the (Code: Select All:)

fast.t-mobile.com
pcweb.t-mobile.com
fbb.home

and not just the one I have (fast.t-mobile.com). Should I update it as it appears in the trouble shooting guide?

No. The correct APN the device (i.e., cell phone, hotspot) can be determined by placing the SIM Card in that device, and go the network settings where it will be shown.

Should I do that at this point too? Also should I try moving the SIM to the adapter card?

Did you find the correct APN?

The two places on my phone to check both do not say what the APN setting is. When I google how to look it up on the iphone it directs me to the Apple website and there is a note saying "IF the carrier allows it".

The only thing listed on the Iphone under Settings, Cellular, under the T-Mobile Network Selection is "T-Mobile".

Under Cellular Data Options, Enable LTE is: Voice & Data. Data Roaming is not on.

I did find this on the T-Mobile website although I don't know how old the web page is.

https://www.t-mobile.com/support/device ... n-settings

Access Point Name (APN): fast.t-mobile.com
MMSC Server: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc

I have to step away for a while. Important to know the proper APN which should be located somewhere in the phone settings.

I would bet it is fast.t-mobile.com

Iphone? You need "Field test mode"
Go to phone dialer and type in

Code: Select all

*3001#12345#*
Then hit the call button (green phone button) like your going to call that number

The APN should be in one of those menus called PDP Context Info under 0/zero

AT+QSIMSTAT output of "0,1" is good. It means it sees the SIM card inserted.

After you get the APN info down and the SIM re-inserted into the router, not the adapter, can you do the following in the AT terminal, please?

AT+CIMI should put out a long number string,
AT+QCCID should output a longer one preceded by "+QCCID :"

Do they? Dont post the output here, that is your SIM ID info.

But.... If you could give the output of AT+CSQ?

Okay, so I built a WE1026-5G with an EM20-G to make it a little easier to figure out.

The newest shipment of EM20-G have the latest firmware (Revision: EM20GRUR01A08M4G) and is not playing fair with the current builds of WiFiX/GoldenOrb/ROOter.

I used the WiFiX version of GoldenOrb_2019-12-11 for this build. It should be the same version you are now running.

I first had to place the modem in MBIM composition to get a connection. Go to the AT Command terminal and enter the following command.

Code: Select all

AT+QCFG="usbnet",2
I also noticed the Comm Port was located at /dev/ttyUSB1 where our router firmware is using /dev/ttyUSB2.

To correct this, I added Custom Modem Ports:

Go to MODEM > CUSTOM MODEM PORTS > CUSTOMIZE and add the following information:

Code: Select all

Switched Vendor ID: 2c7c
Switched Product ID: 0620
PPP Modem Data Port: /dev/ttyUSB1
Communication Port: /dev/ttyUSB1
The SAVE & APPLY

Custom Modem Ports.png

Next, unplug power from the router, wait a few seconds and power back up the router.

Hopefully, this will get you up and running. Tested with T-Mobile.

Thank you Jim! I know this one has been a pain. Didneywhorl & BillA wanted to also say Thank you to both of you for your input as well! I'll be switching gears to trying to maximize the hardware and throughput at this point so I'll be posting threads soon and hope I can leverage everyone's knowledge again.
