WE826 \ MC7455 \ AT&T : Stopped Connecting

Post by GB.Fertig »

I got the WiFiX WE826 GO and build the router with the MC7455 Modem and everything seem to work great for a little under a month, I am now on day two of the device no longer connecting.

It seems to be reading the card fine still, as all of the Modem/SIM Info is populated. The sim was never removed from the router since it was first installed and working either. I seem to have a decent enough single with the tower. The time stamp on the router was off by a few weeks, and I re-synced and power cycled the modem a few times to finally get it reading the correct timestamp, but that didn't seem to fix the problem. Below is my gstatus any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am very new to the LTE modem world so I am slowly learning what to look for and what to check for.

The easiest way of troubleshooting this issue, is by inserting the sim card into a compatible phone, then try to make a test call and go online. If it doesn't work in a phone, then you'll have to sort out the service related issue with your carrier. As long as it works in a phone, continue on to the next step.

Based on the status, you have a pretty good signal but there's a problem with the "PS state: Not attached".
First, set the time, date, and time zone manually again (don't auto-sync it), unplug the router, wait 5 seconds, replug it, wait a couple of minutes, then pull another AT!GSTATUS? report. If it's still showing "PS state: Not attached", then carefully reenter your carrier's APN into the router, restart, and test again. When it's showing "PS state: Attached", you're good to go.

Who's your carrier?
Do you have a limited or unlimited data service?
Did you set the correct TTL value for your carrier?

The carrier is AT&T and it an unlimited data plan.

I did try the sim in a phone and it wouldn't make calls or get data. So I thought maybe it was sim related and contacted my provider who said the sim was registered fine. Then after two days of not working it was working this morning:

Code: Select all

at!gstatus?
!GSTATUS:
Current Time: 46699 Temperature: 43
Reset Counter: 1 Mode: ONLINE

LTE band: B4 LTE bw: 10 MHz
LTE Rx chan: 2000 LTE Tx chan: 20000
LTE CA state: NOT ASSIGNED
EMM state: Registered Normal Service
RRC state: RRC Connected
IMS reg state: No Srv

PCC RxM RSSI: -87 RSRP (dBm): -112
PCC RxD RSSI: -84 RSRP (dBm): -110
Tx Power: 22 TAC: 1225 (4645)
RSRQ (dB): -7.8 Cell ID: 011FFE17 (18873879)
SINR (dB): 11.8

OK
I don't recall setting any TTL values anyplace when I did the setup, what should those be? I noticed that LTE bw: 10Mhz now that its working. Is that normal for that to change?

The TTL should be normally set to 65 on ATT/Tmobile, and 117 on Verizon/Visible, not sure about Sprint.
It's perfectly normal for the bands and bandwidth to change as the modem is constantly scanning for the best channel, that is when it's set to auto-scan, which is usually recommended. You can also create a list of just a few bands, so that the modem will only seek out those few bands and use it for CA whenever the tower allows it. You may also set the list to a single band, essentially forcing the modem to always lock onto that one band only (normally not recommended, but sometimes used for testing purposes).

Crazy thing is its doing it again. Just can't get the modem to attach/connect.

Code: Select all

at!gstatus?
!GSTATUS:
Current Time: 29037 Temperature: 41
Reset Counter: 1 Mode: ONLINE

LTE CA state: NOT ASSIGNED
EMM state: Deregistered Attach Needed
RRC state: RRC Idle
IMS reg state: No Srv

PCC RxM RSSI: -61 RSRP (dBm): -86
PCC RxD RSSI: -67 RSRP (dBm): -91
Tx Power: -- TAC: 1225 (4645)
RSRQ (dB): -10.3 Cell ID: 011FFE10 (18873872)
SINR (dB): 14.2

OK
Shows a decent signal strength. The connect button doesn't seem to do anything log just shows its trying to connect, i typically have great signal now cause i upgraded antennas a few months ago. I checked my ATT phone it has lte fine.

Any suggestions?

ps

I did notice in the debug logs it was giving this commend a bunch

Code: Select all

Sat Jun 20 19:29:19 2020 : /dev/ttyUSB1 AT+CPMS="SM"
+CPMS: 4,30,4,30,4,30
OK
What is that?

It looked like the modem was constantly scanning bands and trying to connect as it should, so I am trying to force it to keep trying on the one band that was working (B4).

This was when it was before 5 days ago:

Code: Select all

at!gstatus?
!GSTATUS:
Current Time: 35348 Temperature: 44
Reset Counter: 1 Mode: ONLINE
System mode: LTE PS state: Attached
LTE band: B4 LTE bw: 10 MHz
LTE Rx chan: 2000 LTE Tx chan: 20000
LTE CA state: NOT ASSIGNED
EMM state: Registered Normal Service
RRC state: RRC Connected
IMS reg state: No Srv

PCC RxM RSSI: -75 RSRP (dBm): -99
PCC RxD RSSI: -67 RSRP (dBm): -93
Tx Power: -- TAC: 1225 (4645)
RSRQ (dB): -7.1 Cell ID: 011FFE17 (18873879)
SINR (dB): 24.4

OK
And this is what I am getting now:

Code: Select all

at!gstatus?
!GSTATUS:
Current Time: 57824 Temperature: 40
Reset Counter: 4 Mode: ONLINE
System mode: LTE PS state: Not attached
LTE band: B4 LTE bw: 10 MHz
LTE Rx chan: 2000 LTE Tx chan: 4294967295
LTE CA state: NOT ASSIGNED
EMM state: Deregistered Attach Needed
RRC state: RRC Idle
IMS reg state: No Srv

PCC RxM RSSI: -79 RSRP (dBm): -103
PCC RxD RSSI: -79 RSRP (dBm): -103
Tx Power: -- TAC: 1225 (4645)
RSRQ (dB): -7.1 Cell ID: 011FFE17 (18873879)
SINR (dB): 19.0

OK
I can't seem to get the modem to attach, only thing that looks way different is that LTE Tx chan, is that normal to be that high? that seems way different than the before?

Only other thing I can think of is the ATT dropping the SIM since the data usage is high or something, I talked to the SIM provider he said he was able to get that SIM to connect/attach to a tower on the west coast where he is (not sure how he did that other than to flash that SIM info to another card I guess) But if ATT was going to drop that SIM for data usage wouldn't it not connect anywhere or is that tower\region specific?

Apprently ATT killed that account, got the SIM attached to a new account and boom everything is working.

ATT accounts don't seem to last very long (they are constantly scanning for modem/router use), it's probably best to have a backup plan just in case it goes out again. ;)

I am running into the same problem and I assume I have the same reason. How did you get the new account? Did you have to call or did you just create a new account online?

Not exactly sure how that works, but the resaler of the sim card and account took care of that.

Does worry me, I don't have back up options here.

Get an ATT iPad account yourself directly from ATT. Its $35 a month. Just need a newer iPad SIM. Must pass a credit check though.
