Hello.
I have an MF279 router that currently connects through AT&T. It's an unlocked router so I'm interested in using it with T-Mobile too. Sadly, the plan caps the speed to 3G since it detects the usage as a non-mobile device. I can bypass this changing the TTL with an external router, simple. But I want to do this on the main router since I want to use my laptop with it whenever I'm traveling.
I've tried using a third party (Fiverr) to get a custom firmare installed on it but they concluded that it's impossible to do so. Specially that I want to make it user friendly in case I want to share it with other people.
Does anyone know if it's actually impossible? I assumed it was close to it since AT&T owns the router's patents and they don't like people messing with their devices.
Suggestions?

Re: Installing Custom FIrmware on MF279 LTE router
The first thing to check is if the MF279 is listed in one the supported OpenWRT devices.
Re: Installing Custom FIrmware on MF279 LTE router
The person I hired through Fiverr apparently made the firmware using Merlin (if my memory serves me well) because it was a better firmware for it. The problem was installing it because there is no way to install it on the router since AT&T apparently locked it.

I believe this is the page to check for that: https://openwrt.org/toh/zte/startJimHelms wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2019 7:47 am The first thing to check is if the MF279 is listed in one the supported OpenWRT devices.
I don't see it listed.
I'm not even sure if that is the list of supported devices or just a list of all ZTE devices that they've linked to for informational purposes. There is another list that has even fewer ZTE devices in it: https://openwrt.org/toh/start

Considering this page has more experience. I was wondering if there's devs that can create the firmware too, and make it user friendly. Obviously I don't expect it to be free.
