ZBT WG1608, EM20-G, Page Plus, stuck connecting

Hello! I'm fairly new here. I've recently gotten a WG1608 with an EM20-G installed in it. I'm stuck as after following all the instructions provided, the modem simply shows connecting.

• I've ensured the apn is set correctly
• I've ensured the ttl is set correctly
• I've tried both GoldenOrb_2020-06-10m GoldenOrb_2020-06-14, and then GoldenOrb_2020-06-10 again
• I've tried custom modem ports for ttyUSB1

After reading through dozens of posts I get the impression my issue here is the EM20-G firmware trying to connect via /dev/ttyUSB2 and my solution to get connected is to downgrade the firmware via the details here.

I don't own an m.2/nvme to usb adapter so I have one ordered which will arrive Friday. I'm hoping that is my fallback plan and wanted to see if anyone here has this router / modem combo currently working. Thanks!

The modem firmware downgrade isnt an issue if the modem is showing up.

Did you clear out all APNs then set the needed one?

• I set the apn to tracfone.vzwentp
• I set the apn on the interface
• One of the last times I redid everything from scratch I ran the command that resets the modem to OEM settings

Are there any other ways to "clear out all APNs"?

AT+CGDCONT=1; AT+CGDCONT=2; ETC; ETC

These commands are to set the APN, and can be used to clear them. At least one of them will fail, that is normal. Usually the first one.

Did you initialize the SIM in a phone?

If you ran

AT+QPRTPARA=3

Then you for sure need to now run

AT+QPRTPARA=1

Otherwise your modem wont save any settings after reboot.

I'm assuming you set the APN under Modem-->Connection Profile, in the web UI?

I've taken the sim out of the router and put it in a phone to confirm it works. This is the signal just sitting at my desk:

And just fyi the modem is in fact showing up on the status page with the Modem IMEI , SIM IMSI, and SIM ICCID showing up, its just not detecting the phone number or the stats below.

This may or may not help, but when I had similar issues, Yipzy's advice sorted me out:

I ran these commands and then rebooted the router and then input the APN again (through the UI)

AT+QMBNCFG="AutoSel",0                                (stop Autoselect config on sim detection)
AT+QMBNCFG="Deactivate"                               (disable MBN config)
AT+CFUN=1,1                                           (reboot the modem)

My setup is a WG3526 and an EP06-A on PagePlus, so similar hardware.

Let us know how it works out. I've been wanting to build that exact setup for myself, but I've not seen any EM20-Gs for sale in a while.

Em20 is not available anymore. I same router with new EM160r-gl.

I did not solve this problem. I'm not sure if I bought a bum router or a bum modem or it just wasn't working. I've just bought and moved to a new house last week so this weekend I should have time to try the instructions from scratch again. If it doesn't work at that point, then I'm not sure what to do with the brick.

Have you tried Visible? Also you may want to try changing the modems protocol from QMI to MBIM or even to ECM. Whatever its set to, try changing it. Also remember you really need to fully power the router down between settings changes.

Set Connection Modes

QMI/PPP/Default
AT+QCFG="usbnet",0

ECM
AT+QCFG="usbnet",1

MBIM
AT+QCFG="usbnet",2

Try ECM last if needed or wanting. It sometimes requires sorcery to get back. Not always, but sometimes.
