tablet wont hold connection to WE826

I have a cheap tablet (Sero 7 Pro) that's still running like Android 4.0 or 4.1 (seriously). It will connect to my WE826 but any time I try to move lots of data, it disconnects. Sometimes it reconnects automatically, other times the tablet's wifi goes completely offline and needs to be reenabled from the settings menu. Also, for some reason it reports a very low signal strength even when in a high-signal part of the house. I would say this is probably an Android bug given the age of the OS, but the problem is that it doesn't display any such behavior with any other routers I've tried it with. Anybody know any settings I should check on the WE826?
