Re: 5G RM500Q-GL (quectel) vs EM9190 (Sierra)
To make apples to apples comparison the Sierra 9190 and the Quectel RM510Q are similar, mmWave capable cards, and the EM9191 compares with the RM500Q as non mmWave 5GNR cards.
Semantics I guess.
Overall the Sierra cards are just too new. And the Quectel cards are still under heavy development really.

Re: 5G RM500Q-GL (quectel) vs EM9190 (Sierra)
I am very interested in this as well.
For a meaningful/fair comparison, Telit modules should be considered, and possibly Simcom.
The Telit cat18 modules did something right, getting listed by all 3 carriers for IOT approved development. That kind of traction may put them out front in the high end card race.
Simcom releasing its high end 8300 card with (14) antenna ports which should raise an eyebrow.
If they all use the same chips like Snapdragon, what criteria would set them apart?

Re: 5G RM500Q-GL (quectel) vs EM9190 (Sierra)
Thanks for the reply friends, so i wanted to get the em9190 from Sierra because it but has both 5g and gps. Its so i can use my laptop on the road, im doing a van built. 8 didn't realize just how new that cards where and didn't realize they where not supported by goldenOrb. Is there anything from Huawei or zte that has both 5g and gps positioning or another brand that wouldwork on goldenOrb. Or do you think i can use those m.2 cards with my laptop with out goldenOrb.
Thanks again
Thanks again
Re: 5G RM500Q-GL (quectel) vs EM9190 (Sierra)
I have a ZTE WG1608 test mule with goldenOrb. I use it to test M2 type modems. It has a provision for a GPS port, it has 5 total. I used it on a Telit LM960 and a LM960A18 (NA version). The LM960A18 wouldn't register on Tmobile unless I use a data only plan.
I'm on the fence on what 5G modem I plan to put in this for testing.
I'm doing all my testing with Yagi and Panels that support 617mhz up. For pure 5G testing, I'm using a Bolton 26dbi parabolic that supports all frequencies.

Re: 5G RM500Q-GL (quectel) vs EM9190 (Sierra)
From what i could see the em9190 supports the most frequencies
Sub-6: n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n12, n20, n25, n28, n38, n40, n41, n48, n66, n71, n77, n78, n79, mmWave: n257, n258, n260, n261
The MH5000-871 5G (Huawei)
5G NR:n78, n79, n41
5G RM500Q-GL (quectel)
5G frequency bands: N41/N77/N78/N79
Sierra's website also says that the modem will work with AT&T (FirstNet), docomo, LGU+, Telstra, Verizon.

FirstNet is for first responders but you don't have to be to get a plan for 40$ unlimited.
What 5g modems are in your short list? The em9190 looks like the best for me but it has so little support from goldenOrb. I went over to them and asked a mod and he just pointed me to the forums and wish me luck. ;.; and the forums over there are had to navigate. Any thoughts on links to look at?

Re: 5G RM500Q-GL (quectel) vs EM9190 (Sierra)
The bigger issue with the EM919x is that devices may not be really ready to support them as they have different voltage needs and they are setup a bit differently in order to support and use the mmwave antennas. it seems both the sub 6 version and the mmwave version are setup the same. It's just so new no one really has anything working yet.

RM510 is a no go. People are frying them all over the place, and the mmWave antennas are basically not available on the consumer market, AND mmWave rollout is not real dense.
RM500Q-AE is the ticket for now.
Both support every 4GLTE band there is.
