Re: Rural internet antenna setup HELP!
If you can get the eNB ID number from your phone or something, go on cellmapper and put your carrier in, and down in the left side is a 'tower' dropdown list. Put that eNB number in, not the hex, the real number, like mine is 59771 for TMob (VA) and it should take you right to the tower and it ...

Re: MoFi sim7 takes forever to login
Under System/Manually flash firmware is 'Flash new firmware image' and there is a box for 'keep settings' So it looks like I have to download from the MoFi page and manually flash the image instead of auto update? I'll wait until the wife is gone in case it takes a while or I eff up. I did download ...

MoFi sim7 takes forever to login
After a while having the MoFi on, it seems to take forever to log into the device. If I restart it, unplug and re-plug and it finally starts up, then it logs in right away. What is this about?

Re: MoFi paddle compared to cheap LPDA
I don't know what LPDA means to you, but to me it's 'Log Periodic Dipole Array'. Pointed at the sky? Not sure where you got that, but I pointed it at the tower, actually both of them.
And I also have a MiMopanel up about 10' above the roof line, it's about equivalent to the LPDA antennas. If I use ...

Re: Next step: MIMO or bigger yagi?
Look here https://hamwaves.com/lpda/en/index.html The optimum value for a LP antenna only gives at best 10.5dBi gain. The manufacturers values are way over inflated. Only way to determine if a wider BW channel will give you better download Mbps is to try. It's worth it.

Re: Next step: MIMO or bigger yagi?
My experience with MoFi 4500 sim7 and tower 7 miles LOS with some trees locally. 2 paddles on 50' LMR400 produced about -115dBm. As I remember speeds were in the 5-10 Mbps range. Replaced paddles with MiMo panel. Signal strength went to -105dBm ±. Speeds went up to 20Mbps. Then I tried 2 cheap ($40 ...

Re: Gl.inet GL-750x on T-Mobile (5G)
Just for reference. I have a MoFi sim7 locked to B4 TMob. Tower is 7 miles away, pretty much LOS. LTE signal -101 to -108 depending on time of day/wx. Download speeds of at least 20Mb/s sometimes 40 Mbps. This is LTE, what's with 5G? I have a 9dB panel antenna above the roof on 2x50' LMR400 to the ...

Re: New to LTE, MOFI 4500 setup?
Since my last post, couple things. My provider gave me a WiFiX NEXQ6GO with the EM06a modem. Plus the cheap LP came and I installed it. Plus the provider gave me a mimo panel to try.

Re: MoFi sim7 vs WiFiX NEXQ6GO
OK, I tried CA with B4/66 (AT+QCFG="band",0,20000000000000008). Could not see any CA in the status page, tried B4/71(AT+QCFG="band",0,400000000000000008) because 71 is real strong and 10MHz, same thing, no CA shown on status page during download. I almost think since 4 and 66 are the same freq, they ...

Re: MoFi sim7 vs WiFiX NEXQ6GO
I did see it CA while on 4, forget which band but maybe 2(10M) or 12(5M). Those BW are with the last scan I did with the mofi. But it also listed 66 as 10M. I seem to get conflicting info with the band scans sometimes. I'll try just 4/66 CA and see what it does. First thing today is get tape on the ...

MoFi sim7 vs WiFiX NEXQ6GO
Been using this MoFi sim7 since Aug last year. My provider gave me a WiFiX NEXQ6GO with a Quectel EP06a modem in it. Initially using the MoFi with the 3 paddles on 50' of LMR400 above the roof. Tower is 7 miles away pretty much LOS with some trees, TMob B4 or 66 seems best 20MHz wide. Provider also ...

Yes, I've been to cellmapper, that's how I discovered where my tower is from the enb number 59771. And it makes sense. I do notice things are changing even from last August. But cellmapper is also anecdotal evidence. I have to treat it with a pinch of salt. It's too bad the FCC doesn't make the ...

Well, actually when I got this mofi I was getting about 1-10max Mbps on B71 because that was what was recommended. After a bandscan a while ago, unknown to me it reset to auto select and linked on B4 which was giving me 15-20Mbps, Then I got this LP and now I'm getting 30-40Mb down on B4 or 66, they ...

Re: Can someone explain how local resellers work?
I just went back and reread the whole thread. It does concern my issues. I have a 'non contract' deal with a local guy, actually his land abuts mine. He's been selling plans for a while, maybe 2018 or so. He says he only sells locally. There's next to no availability of internet here. Hughesnet ...

Re: Can someone explain how local resellers work?
I talked with an IT guy the other day, he says their company buys 'data' from Verizon, AT&T and TMob. Re: Can someone explain how local resellers work?
Look up MVNO, Mobile Virtual Network Operators. That's how it works. I subscribe to one and realize I am secondary to regular TMob subscriber, but so far using about 100GB/mo that costs me $100/mo. it's working for me. I link to a TMob tower about 7 miles away and with a single LPDA cheap $40 ...

I put the cheap LPDA up this morning and signal went from -113 to -106, still 2 bars but download speed went up to 40Mbps. I could still get the antenna up another 5-8' with the run of cable I have. For $40 I may just buy another and put them both up at the 45° mimo thing and see what happens.

Re: MoFi4500 sim 7 questions
Well, I'll tell you, if I use the paddles on the MoFi where it's located now in my room without the 50' of LMR400 on it, I get -120dBm or less, hardly a signal so it's much better with the paddles over the roof. Just tonight I got the $40 LPDA and measured the SWR on it. I have an AA-600 RigExpert ...

Re: New to LTE, MOFI 4500 setup?
I too have a MoFi sim7. It's working for me. TMob with an MVNO, he first locked me to B71 because he thought I was 14 miles from the tower. Turns out the tower is 7 miles and 180° the other way. It is LOS but through about 200yds of local trees, past that it's a clear shot. Since I got the plan, Aug ...

Re: Mofi4500 SIM7 + T-Mobile = throttled
This is interesting. I tested my MoFi sim7 on TMob band 4 that I typically get 20-30Mbps down with the wan on my W10 computer. I measured the DL using my Moto G5plus on the MoFi wifi and I get less than 5Mbps. Then I switch the Moto G5+ to my Asus NT-R66U router which is wan'd to the MoFi, and I get ...

Re: Predicament in the mountains
If that drawing is right and you have a peak above your location to the towers in the plains, your best option is to go with the lowest frequency available. Band 12 is low, Band 71 even lower, but only TMobile uses it. You will be blocked from any of the higher frequency bands by that peak if you're ...

If you play around with this link you can get the info you need free, but it takes a bit of work to figure out how to make it work. What you want to do is set your location as the tower with the selected height and then go from there. As you click on areas on the map you can create terrain paths ...

That is not a spectrum analyzer. It's a vector network analyzer. It will measure R±jX if you know what that is. I really doubt if it would do what you are expecting it to do. Like I say it's a network analyzer, not a signal analyzer.

I'd like to try some of those other antennas when you get a chance Todd. I doubt a band scan would do much good with my single band antennas, they really only work between 590-700.
