Re: WG1608-V2 + Quectel EM12-G (SOLVED)
I put it back the simcard onto the phone so verizon would reactivate it. They didn't like SIM in the Quectel modem.

That was exactly the case, used another SIM and it was back. Now I got it to work with Verizon and ATT.
Thank you guys.

Re: WG1608-V2 + Quectel EM12-G
I think the issue was Verizon not liking my modem. I popped a ATT sim and changed the profile to "broadband" and it worked.
Wondering what's the best way to find when a carrier rejects you instead of just keep trying. Wish there was a AT command to find out.

Re: WG1608-V2 + Quectel EM12-G
Still didn't work, here is some debug info with identification numbers replaced with XXX.
The only line I see an error is: AT+CPBR=? which in Quectel manual says is to read phonebook entries. The Sim should have no entries so it should be ok to fail.
+QINDCFG: "all",0
OK

Re: Onboard Sim slot selection
Found some info using the GPIO pins to set:
gpioset 1000000.pinctrl 3=0
However I don't have a way to test reading the sim card. I find it strange that the Modem has a direct path to talk to the sim, it must be exposed in some other way.

How does the M.2 PCI-E/USB modem finds the Sim cards ?
I've a Compex WPJ428 with dual SIM slots and wondering how the SIM slot selection is made.
So far I'm running modemmanger and I can see the modem and it does not find the sim on slot0.

Building a WPJ428 (MMN428HV) with GoldenOrb
The Compex WPJ428 or MMN428HV comes with a Quad Core CPU, SIM and M2 slot.
I noticed it can be made into a nice router so I order one and here I have it running Rooter Gold Orb.
The steps to build are the standard: http://ofmodemsandmen.com/buildpkg.html

Yes they both have the same names and both have mostly the same description. However one has 6 antenna connectors while the other has only 4.

Using the wg3526p, with a mpcie to m.2 adapter, and the Quectel EM20G, inside a B41 tuned dual flat panel antenna enclosure, with another dual panel plugged in as well, I can test nearly 400Mbps with speedtest.net. thats with 3xCA on Sprints band 41.

I've been looking for a solution to have the sim card separated from the router as the router will stay together with the antenna.

That Unielec U7623 router looks interesting on paper, but the problem is that there's only regular OpenWRT and Rooter firmware available for it, still no GoldenOrb. Also, looks like it doesn't come with built-in WiFi 2/5G, so you'll have to add your own WIFi cards which increases the cost. I'm ...

While USB2's maximum theoretical speed is 480Mbps, due to some overhead it maxes out at around 400Mbps in the real world. From my experience, current LTE speeds rarely exceed that limit even with a higher CAT modem, therefore I don't think you'd gain too much speed increase using a USB3 connection ...

If I may...
The WE826 and WG3526 will need a mpcie to m.2 adapter, which downgrades the usb3.0 capable speeds down to usb2.0. This will make your CAT20 modem a waste of money. The WE826 specifically only has base100 LAN ports and both the 3526 and 826 have sketchy quality wifi and typically work ...

I'm not a fan of long cables for antennas, usually there is huge loss in them.
I just found this M2M NEXG H721 wish it was in stock. Looks like H721 Dual sim 4G LTE is a common device. That might be the way to go.
