Re: 5 year RV nomad looking for better mobile solutions.
As an update here:
I grabbed a T-Mobile Home Internet setup even though my current location's ZIP doesn't allow for it... I'm uh. Moving. Yeah. So they shipped it to me here. It's fast and working great.
I also grabbed a Raspberry Pi 4 8gb. It's got Speedify running on it.

Re: 5 year RV nomad looking for better mobile solutions.
Update: Orbi setup added, as well as a USB-Ethernet dongle for the T-Mobile Home Internet. This is amazing and requires almost no maintenance/fiddling. I'm still fine tuning, but think this is absolutely going to be the best option for my needs here. 8800L and Nighthawk tethered VIA USB, TMobile via ...

Re: 5 year RV nomad looking for better mobile solutions.
Most openWRT based routers like the MOFI are basically little Linux computers with specific hardware on it. The raspberryPi is a small Linux computer and thus some people have figured out how to set the RaspberryPi to run the openWRT firmware (like an OS) which turns it into a router basically ...

Re: LTE Modem purchase Question
Yes I have both. If you don't need band 71 the 160 outperforms it. Especially when it aggregates band 2, 4 and 12 or band 2, 12 and 66. And because it can CA on UL it will match or beat 71. Where I'm at band 71 is great on UL so when the 7411 combines 66 and 71 is also awesome. But I wouldn't ...

Quectel EM160 AT commands
As some of you may know, or have recently found out, the newest Quectel modems (EM160, EM120, RM500, RM510, RM502) do NOT use all of the same AT commands as the predecessor modems.
Here are a list of a few new commands and what they should do, and a list of commands that I've found not working ...

Re: 4x4 MIMO modem and 2x2 MIMO external antenna?
There is a command to basically tell the modem you want it to prefer up to 3 bands.
I think it works on the EM160, I'll have to test sometime:
AT+QCFG="lte/bandprior",<band>,<band>,<band>
This is odd... If I query all options for +QCFG, it shows that lte/bandprior is a valid option:
AT+QCFG ...

Re: Anyway to pull in this band?
I don't think the Samsung A51 or the A71 pick up low band 5G. I was thinking about doing the same thing, but will probably look to a phone that picks up both the low and mid band. Just something to consider for people who are more rural, like myself.
As I mentioned previously, there are two ...

It depends on the device, but if you are using a device with rooter, you can place the following rules in the firewall-->custom Rules tab, to cover both ip4 and ip6:
# A Hashtag is in place if not using that line.
# Popular TTL values: 64 for ...

I've had great luck with the Quectel RM500Q (both GL and AE versions) using a WG3526-P router. I use a USB3 to M.2 adapter for the modem to use the USB3 bus on the WG3526 router. the WG1608 router seems to have random issues that I don't think earns itself a spot on the "most stable" list. It's ...

OpenWRT vs GoldenOrb
I was hoping somebody could explain what the advantages are of using the GoldenOrb firmware as opposed to the OpenWRT firmware which GoldenOrb is based off of? I have used openwrt for a long time but am also just getting started with LTE and GoldenOrb. My take is if you just want to tether a phone, openwrt is fine -- works for me. But if you want to connect an LTE modem directly (instead of a phone), the GoldenOrb has more extensive support for various LTE ...

Thanks...I re-flashed my router to move to OpenWRT and it seems to be working ok thus far. One other point of distinction is that is seems that load balancing is only available as a standard feature with GoldenOrb. It looks like it is possible to do with OpenWRT, but would require a little more ...

The Verizon MVNO and prepaid phone plans need the modem IMEI to match, and it's an ass pain. There is lots of info on using the Verizon pre-paid on here. BillA has helped many with it. Search for his posts on Verizon.
