Re: First Build, Mofi replacement, Budget $500(ish)
Anytime!
MOFI isn't a terrible unit, its just marketed to be WAY more device than it is and all you are really paying for is the firmware. They don't tell you that its modem is very dated and the wifi throughput is trash. They say high speed cutting edge! Then charge over $300 for them. Nuts. But ...

Re: EM160R-GL antenna pin outs?
Great. Thanks for the info. I am still contemplating my build. When I initially set up my EM160, I will only have a single 2x2 panel antenna. It may be a while before I spend the extra $230 to get the second antenna. Sounds like I could just run it in 2x2 mode (for lack of better term) until I get ...

Re: NEWBIE: Mofi 4500 Sim 7 Using Visible SIM. Set-Up & Optimization. *HELP*
One more note, some users here are running TTL at 117 for Verizon. I have never tried it. But might put that on your list of things to try.

Re: NEWBIE: Mofi 4500 Sim 7 Using Visible SIM. Set-Up & Optimization. *HELP*
A fellow Sim 7 owner here. Definitely test a few TTL's, as Didneywhorl is suggesting. If your unit is like mine, IPV6 was not enabled, and I left it that way.
Just to be sure, have you band locked onto the fastest band? If not, you will want to do some experimenting and note taking.

Re: LTE Modem purchase Question
Great info. Thanks to both of you. I'm using AT&T and have no need for Band 71. Sounds like the EM160 will be a good choice for my situation.

Re: WG1608 with an EM160GL (total newbie) need help with setup.
Hello,
Recently had issues with the new openwrt stuff not having certificate done. Had to use chrome put in the 192.168.1.1 then will get error. Have to go to advanced in the window of the error and say go anyway.
Also do a control and F5 before hand while in chrome.
Hope maybe this helps.

Re: New WG1608 and EM160R-GL, no Signal
Agree with MattB29, this looks like a SIM issue, for now. Check that you have it properly inserted. If you are using an adapter, like the Noosy, make sure you have it properly aligned in the adapter and very carefully insert it. They are prone to get loose in the adapter as you insert into the modem ...

Re: Quectel EM12-G vs EM160. Sprint b25/26/41 home use
I'm using an em160 on AT&T. I am able to CA B66+B66, or B66+B12, or B66+B12+B66. But it will only do it when the tower allows. When there is congestion on the tower, it is unlikely to have CA at all. Though it will usually still allow 4x4 MIMO.

Re: Mofi4500-Sim7 + Quectel EM12-G CAT12
Yes, you could replace the modem card in the Mofi, I don't know if the Mofi firmware would continue to work. I flashed my Mofi with the Goldenorb version for the WE826, just to experiment a bit. It works really well. You can always reflash it with the Mofi firmware and put it back to stock if you ...

Re: Mofi4500-Sim7 + Quectel EM12-G CAT12
Goldenorb is probably the only firmware you will need. As long as you pick a device that Goldenorb is currently supporting (there a couple of lists on the website below). That's why I picked the Raspberry Pi 3B+, instead of the newer and more powerful 4B. There was a recently updated and proven ...

Re: Quectel EM12-G vs EM160. Sprint b25/26/41 home use
Yes, you will need a SIM with an active data plan of some sort. There's lots of threads on here about the options. To me, that is the hardest part of the equation. I was nervous about assembling the hardware, but it went pretty smoothly. The real challenge is getting unthrottled, unlimited data. We ...

Could you pull the Sim from your phone and see if the EM160 will read it? Just to help with the process of elimination.

I have the same router/modem---new to me (rig)
trying to get up with a Verizon tablet plan-post paid, that I know works in another router--no love.

Re: ATT Still Showing Hotspot Data as used
I have tried everything I can find to try, but cannot get the tether to use phone data, just keeps burning hotspot data. I tried TTL/HL of 64,65 and 66. With IPv6 enabled and disabled, with custom DNS servers and without. Nothing works.

Re: RV Internet setup needed for work
Hmmmmm, that 3rd company didn't happen to be have RV in their name with 4G did it?
No, this was a company called InfinteLTE. They actually are a very good company. I think AT&T changed the rules on them. A few days later they offered to get me reconnected on a new Sim, but I had already moved ...

I know the MOFI was working great for me previously most of the places I was located, but I am now considering this modem https://thewirelesshaven.com/shop/routers/4g-lte-routers/lt500-cellular-router-with-dual-band-wifi-plug-and-play/
That modem is no better than the Mofi. The wifi router is ...

Re: RV Internet setup needed for work
Do you have any suggestions that is affordable, works great, and will last me for a bit?
I would suggest getting the most you can possibly get out of the Mofi and then reassess. You will learn a lot as you gain experience with it and build your knowledge base. You will then be in a better ...

Re: RV Internet setup needed for work
How do I confirm if I am using phone data or hotspot data?
The short answer, trial and error. You get the modem connected and do something to use data, like streaming. Wait a few hours, or overnight, and log in to your account to see whether data counted as hotspot data or unlimited data. If ...

I second that...Build a hotrod! I like that analogy. That's what I did.Dr-BroadBand wrote: Thu May 20, 2021 6:56 pm I would agree with BDF1234, the MoFi is a good starter unit but if you need speed you will need to build a hot rod.

Re: NEXQ6GO-M With EM12G. What kind of plan to choose? Phone plan or hotspot?
I practically begged Verizon to sell me their Home LTE service, but they would not. The tower is 1.25 miles from my house, and my neighbor has it and it works great. They could not provide a reason for not selling it to me, just a list of potential reasons. Very frustrating company to deal with.

Re: NEXQ6GO-M With EM12G. What kind of plan to choose? Phone plan or hotspot?
I will definitely try to get the tablet plan soon but for now I got the 100gb hotspot plan for $55/month. I finally got this setup working and the next step is getting the antennas figured out. I will also look into Verizon so that I get better coverage. Thank you a lot for the tip.
Glad you ...

Re: mofi4500 and verizon Ipad sim
Are you band locking? On the Sim 7 you would generally want to band lock. It looks like B66 is going to be your best bet, but the only way to know for sure is to band lock each one and run speed tests until you figure out which band gives the most consistent and highest speeds.
If you have the Sim ...
